stargazing: the elusive observatory

After weeks and weeks of disappointment, the Ladd Observatory was finally open! Ordinarily, the observatory is open on Tuesday nights from 9-10:30pm, weather permitting, but it seems that the key to accessing the observatory really is the weather. For some reason it's been cloudy and gloomy on every Tuesday night for the past four weeks (the stars were not aligned, I suppose).

Tonight was no exception, but the folks working at the observatory had high hopes that the sky would be clearer. It was not. Alas I was not able to look through their telescopes or see any stars.

I still had a wonderful time looking at all of the instruments they have at the Ladd Observatory. While the building is quite small, it houses a great assortment of astronomical instruments and pictures that were fascinating to look at. They've maintained the building and its telescopic equipment since it was constructed in 1891. Hopefully next Tuesday the skies will clear up and I'll be able to look through their telescope!
