In this series, I utilize typography and photography as mediums by which to explore the nuances and connotations of the Chinese word 乖 (guai). The word means good or well-behaved. I have often been referred to as being 乖, and it has always rubbed me the wrong way, for it is a word that is demeaning to me, and has connotations of passivity. Juxtaposing the word within the context of the images that they exist in, I attempt to challenge these notions of obedience and the definition of the word 乖.
